Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

At Slade Law Group, we understand that legal matters can be complex and overwhelming. To help you make informed decisions, we’ve compiled answers to some of the most common questions about our legal services in Pennsylvania.

Contracts & Business Law

What type of contracts do you prepare?

Our Pennsylvania contract lawyers review and draft a wide range of agreements, including:

  • Employment & independent contractor agreements

  • Commercial and residential leases

  • Non-compete & non-disclosure agreements

  • Shareholder & partnership agreements

  • Business purchase agreements

  • Promissory notes, guarantees, & mortgages

  • Franchise and service agreements

  • Construction & software-as-a-service (SaaS) contracts

Why should I have my contract reviewed by a lawyer?

A poorly written contract can expose you to financial losses, hidden liabilities, or court disputes. Our attorneys ensure that contracts are clear, enforceable, and designed to protect your interests. Spending a little upfront can prevent much larger costs later.

Why should I form a company to do business?

Forming a limited liability company (LLC) or corporation separates your personal assets from your business risks. This means your savings, home, and personal property are protected if the business fails or faces legal issues. Our team helps business owners across Pennsylvania choose the right entity and complete the formation process.

Why do I need an operating agreement or partnership agreement?

Banks, lenders, and investors often require a business operating agreement. Drafting one also ensures partners discuss roles, responsibilities, and dispute resolution methods in advance. We prepare customized partnership agreements and LLC operating agreements that reflect your goals.

What is included in your business advisory services?

Our business advisory services include:

  • Two hours of attorney consultation & research per month

  • Compliance and regulatory guidance

  • Contract drafting & review

  • Strategic advice for growth and risk management

A three-month minimum ensures consistency and follow-through.

Property & Real Estate

What are the steps for a deed change or property transfer in Pennsylvania?

Our deed transfer attorneys prepare the new deed, arrange for notarized signatures, and record it with the county Recorder of Deeds. We also recommend a title search to uncover liens or mortgages that could affect ownership.

Will my property transfer be tax-free?

Most property transfers are subject to:

  • 1% Pennsylvania transfer tax

  • Additional local taxes depending on the municipality

Exemptions exist for transfers between spouses, lineal descendants, or to trusts. We’ll review your situation to see if you qualify.

Wills & Estate Planning

Why should I have a will?

A will drafted by a Pennsylvania estate attorney ensures your assets are distributed according to your wishes. Without one, Pennsylvania law decides who inherits, which may exclude stepchildren, unmarried partners, or others you want to provide for.

What is a living will?

A living will (advance healthcare directive) allows you to appoint someone to make medical decisions if you cannot. Our attorneys discuss your healthcare preferences with you and prepare the document for signing before witnesses and a notary.

Name Changes & Criminal Record Relief

What is required to change my name in Pennsylvania?

To change your name, we file a petition with the county court, arrange fingerprinting and background checks, and ensure all publication requirements are met. After a hearing, the court may grant approval. The process usually takes several months.

What can be expunged or pardoned from my criminal record?

  • Expungement: Arrests, acquittals, withdrawals, and non-prosecutions

  • Pardon: Any Pennsylvania conviction may be eligible for a pardon application

Our attorneys review your record and guide you through the right process.

Pricing & Payments

What are your prices?

We strive for transparent legal fees. Flat rates are available for many services, though pricing may vary depending on the specifics of your case.

What forms of payment do you accept?

  • Check

  • Bank transfer (1% fee)

  • Credit card (2.5%–3.4% fee)

  • Zelle

Can I get a refund of legal fees?

Refunds are not available for flat-rate or monthly services. If you pay a retainer and the final bill is less, we refund the difference.
